I am a 30 year old German computer geek. If you want to make me happy, give me a room full of computer hardware to play and I won’t bother you for days :). I kept up with my passion throughout my professional life by designing workstations and gaming PCs for friends, customers and companies on a freelance basis and worked for 6 years at the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI GmbH) as student assistant in the IT department (“Infrastructure Group”, ISG).
At the same time, I studied Chemistry in Kaiserslautern and specialized in Biochemistry and Biotechnology for my Master’s Degree (German Diplom). During the past 4 years I conducted my PhD studies at the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology developing novel ways to analyze High-throughput data.
My parents raised me as curious person with an open mind. As a consequence, I became a scout at the age of 6 and later also an enthusiastic traveler. During my travels, I try to bridge between comfort and “truly experiencing” foreign cultures knowing that I will always remain a tourist.
The picture shows me at the top level of the Mae Sa Waterfall near Chiang Mai in those touristy elephant trousers every first-timer in Thailand wears until he realizes that it makes everything just the touristy-bit more expensive 😛 . ©JPB 2015
